An artist aged 68 described his back pain as ‘a bayonet stuck in my back’. He suffered from breathlessness and experienced pain into his shoulders and right arm. After his first BSR session, the pain disappeared, but he had to refrain from intense physical activity to give his body a chance to heal.
A young woman aged twenty-eight had been experiencing almost constant headaches for six months, as well as a stiff and painful neck. She had two sessions of BSR. After each session, the pain withdrew, but returned within a day. Detailed questioning revealed that she started using a new skin cream about six months before. She stopped using it, and after one further session of BSR, her neck stabilised and the headache ceased.
A woman in her thirties came for BSR for help with foot pain. After the body stress in the lower back was releaased, she had a severe bout of diarrhoea. She then reported that she had been having a problem with constipation for years.
A man of 48 was experiencing such intense calf pain that he was unable to walk. He was not aware of any pain in his lower back. A week of traction in hospital had not eased the problem. After the 1st BS session his lower back became very painful as feeling was restored to numbed nerves. The calf pain was unchanged. After the 2nd session 3 days later, the pain withdrew from his calves and was felt in the hips and lower back. After further releases 5 days later, the pain in the lower back began to lessen. The final session was 3 days after that. Within 2 weeks he was pain-free and was able to return to work.
Linda reported that her twelve-week-old baby had cried almost constantly since birth. He hunched his shoulders and screamed when moved. Immediately after body stress was released in the neck, the exhausted baby fell asleep for ten hours. Much to the relief of his distressed parents, he became placid and contented.
A woman in her thirties had suffered from frequent attacks of asthma since a neck whiplash injury in a car accident, four months previously. After three sessions of BSR full movement was restored to her neck and all symptoms of asthma ceased.
Body stress is a powerful factor in all our lives and can undermine our health and well-being in many ways.
Every day we are exposed to different types of stress:
• Mechanical - such as an injury, strain, or bad posture
• Chemical - such as air pollutants, additives and colourants in food, harmful chemicals in everyday products
• Mental or emotional stress
Our bodies are designed to adapt to these stresses in a positive way but sometimes we find ourselves overloaded by stress. In an effort to cope with this overload, the body stores the stress in the muscles. This is what we call ‘body stress’.
Body stress may lead to pain, stiffness, postural distortion, numbness and cramp. Tension in the muscles may put pressure on your nerves which disturbs your body’s communication
system. This reduces the efficiency of your body’s natural self-healing ability.
Body Stress Release offers a gentle and effective way to help your body to release stored tension from the muscles, i.e. ‘body stress’.
Body Stress Release works with your body’s natural desire to bestress-free. Clients are often amazed that such a gentle technique can be so effective in relieving their aches and pains. While you are lying down, fully clothed, your practitioner tests your body for stored tension. Then, by applying a gentle and precise pressure to the affected areas, your body is encouraged to ‘release’ the tension.
This stored tension may be the cause of the discomfort you are experiencing including: backache, neck pain, headaches, sciatica and cramp.
Body Stress Release is a complementary health care technique that was researched and developed in South Africa in the 1980s by Gail and Ewald Meggersee and is now practised worldwide.
